Three members of last year’s Arizona State Sun Devils football team are headed elsewhere.

Defensive linemen Darius Slade and Jalen Bates and wide receiver Terrell Chatman, all red-shirt juniors, are leaving the program.

Slade recorded eight tackles, a forced fumble and fumble recovery in 11 games for the Sun Devils in 2018. The lineman, who transferred to ASU from Ohio State and sat out the 2017 season, was granted a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA in December.

Bates and Chatman took to social media with the news of their transfers.

“I’d like to thank Coach Herm and his staff at Arizona State for providing valuable leadership and mentorship that led to me becoming a better man on and off the field,” Bates said in his post. “Also, I’d like to thank Sun Devil Nation for the constant support over the past 4 years.”

The lineman played in all 13 games for ASU last season. He made 31 tackles, including six for a loss, a sack and forced fumble.

While the depth on defense got thinner, the offense also got hit with a transfer.

Chatman played in three games over the course of his ASU career. In 2018, the wideout caught two passes for 20 yards and a touchdown.

“I would also like to thank Arizona State University, my teammates and everyone apart of the coaching staff for not only helping me become a better student athlete, but most importantly for helping me grow as a man,” Chatman said in a social media post. “However, I will be graduating this May and exploring my options as a graduate transfer.

“Again, I want to thank Arizona State University for everything.”

The trio of transfers is the latest group of players to leave the program.

Utility back Nick Ralston, Linebackers Malik Lawal and Jay Jay Wilson and punter Michael Sleep-Dalton have also left the school since the conclusion of the season.
