The 5: Question marks facing the Phoenix Suns heading into training camp

Sep 30, 2014, 3:56 PM | Updated: Oct 1, 2014, 1:37 am

There are a few new faces, but the 2014-15 Phoenix Suns will, for the most part, return the same group that shocked the league last season by nearly winning 50 games and almost earning a playoff berth.

Gone are starting power forward Channing Frye and backup guards Ish Smith, Leandro Barbosa and Dionte Christmas. Incoming are point guard Isaiah Thomas (a 20-point-per-game scorer last year with Sacramento), veteran forward Anthony Tolliver and, among others, 2014 first-round draft picks T.J. Warren and Tyler Ennis.

With a team so young and one that has some experience playing and winning together, a playoff-caliber season logically appears to be in store. However, the situation isn’t as simple as it seems in a tough Western Conference field.

Suns players and coaches will convene Tuesday in Flagstaff, in what is likely the first time in the last few years the team has entered training camp with a significant amount of buzz and high expectations. Let’s take a look at five uncertainties surrounding the group as it gears up for the start of the 2014-15 campaign.
