Rookie starting pitcher Zac Gallen made his Arizona Diamondbacks debut in the 6-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night, making him the third rookie in the D-backs starting rotation alongside Merrill Kelly and Alex Young.

Gallen allowed no runs, only one hit and struck out six while walking three in five innings of work (85 pitches/54 strikes), bringing his ERA on the year down to 2.40.

The right-hander picked up his first win in a D-backs uniform, and even got his first career RBI on a bunt that scored Nick Ahmed in the bottom of the fourth.

Gallen — who was ranked as the Miami Marlins’ No. 5 prospect — was acquired from the Marlins at the trade deadline in exchange for the D-backs’ No. 1 prospect Jazz Chisholm.

He was drafted in the third round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the St. Louis Cardinals out of UNC, but traded to Miami as part of the Marcell Ozuna deal.

Gallen made his MLB debut earlier this season in June, starting seven games for the Marlins before being dealt to Arizona.

In that span, he had 2.72 ERA with 43 strikeouts and a 1.183 WHIP in 36.1 innings pitched.

So why was his record 1-3 with Miami? No run support.

In the 24-year-old’s last four outings with the Marlins, his team failed to muster more than two runs in each start, combining for a measly six runs in four games while Gallen only allowed five in that span.

The D-backs are averaging over five runs scored per game this year.
