John Humphrey, a wide receiver who has been at Arizona State the last three seasons, will be transferring to Nevada, Wolf Pack head coach Jay Norvell confirmed on Monday.

“He’s a kid that I’ve known for a long time,” Norvell told NevadaSportsNet.com.

“I recruited him at Oklahoma and then he transferred to Arizona State. He’s a skill player. He’s a defensive back/wide receiver, excellent special teams kid with great speed. We’re excited to have him on our roster.”

The wide receiver took to Twitter on Aug. 19 to announce that he would be leaving ASU, but it was unknown at the time as to which school would be receiving Humphrey’s services.

“My time here at Arizona State has given me the opportunity to sharpen my skills and become more a student of the game,” Humphrey wrote in a statement on Twitter. “I would like to say thank you to the entire coaching staff for everything they have done for me.

“I’ve decided to transfer from Arizona State University and I will continue to pursue towards my masters and football career elsewhere.”

Humphrey played in 10 games for ASU, all of those in 2017. He had 13 catches that year with one touchdown, tallying 177 yards. He missed the entirety of the 2018 season due to an Achilles injury.

Prior to coming to ASU, Humphrey spent his freshman year at Oklahoma, sitting out the season as a redshirt.

Coming out of high school, Humphrey was rated a four-star recruit by ESPN and was ranked by the same publication as the No. 191 overall recruit in the country and 23rd wide receiver. He also ran track in high school.

Without Humphrey, the ASU wide receiving corps stands to feature seniors Brandon Aiyuk, Kyle Williams and Ryan Newsome, juniors Frank Darby and Curtis Hodges and a handful of underclassmen. Among those players, Williams led in catches last year with 44. That was second on the team to N’Keal Harry, who had 73 receptions and is now with the New England Patriots.
