With Hurricane Dorian leaving disastrous effects on the Bahamas, Phoenix Suns center Deandre Ayton is looking to help out his home country.

Ayton was born in Nassau, Bahamas, and still has friends and family who live in the country. He took to social media on Friday to announce his plan and how the Phoenix community can get involved in his relief efforts.

After pledging $100,000 of his own money to help relief efforts, Ayton will be working with the Suns to collect supplies and donations to send to the Bahamas.

Ayton and his family will be hosting a donation drive Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Fry’s Food Stores location at 20th Street and Camelback Road in Phoenix. They are asking Suns fans to donate toiletries, diapers, baby wipes, first aid kits, cleaning supplies, canned goods, box fans, leather work gloves, hand sanitizer, nonperishable food, water, generators and monetary donations.

He also stated that he will have more information coming regarding how people who do not live in the Phoenix area can help out.

Along with the donations he collects, Ayton will also be pledging $100,000 towards various relief efforts.

Recent updates from the Bahamas have been disheartening. The Guardian reported that 70,000 people are in need of life-saving. The death toll has been reported at 44, but that figure is expected to rise.
