The NFL season has crossed the halfway mark and the playoff push is on.
98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s Doug Franz, Ron Wolfley and Paul Calvisi presented their Week 9 Power Poll on Wednesday’s episode of Doug & Wolf, and there were some discrepancies on the lists.
Franz and Wolfley both had the Seattle Seahawks in their five-spot while Calvisi went with the Minnesota Vikings.
Both teams are 6-2 and won in Week 8 against one-win opponents. Neither team made any of the three’s lists last week, but the top of the NFC is loaded and the Seahawks and Vikings are in the thick of their division races.
At third and fourth, Franz and Wolfley both had 7-0 San Francisco and 7-1 Green Bay, but in a different order. Calivisi took Kansas City fourth then Green Bay, leaving off the 49ers.
Calivisi’s reasoning for taking the Chiefs, who have lost three of four, was that they have pieces returning soon. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the most prominent, and he participated in limited practice on Wednesday.
The 49ers have been one of the most surprising stories in the NFL with seven straight wins to begin the season. Most Vegas odds projected that they would finish the year with eight during the preseason.
But, they have only beaten two teams above .500 and have a brutal second-half schedule.
The top two teams on all three lists were identical with the New Orleans Saints in second and the New England Patriots in first.
The Saints are 7-1 and have not lost since Week 2. Plus, they got quarterback Dree Brees back from injury last week against Arizona and he shined with 373 yards and three touchdowns.
The Pats are 8-0 and have only one win by single digits. They have scored the most points in the NFL and have allowed the fewest.
