The Arizona Coyotes announced Friday they had recalled forward Brayden Burke from the Tucson Roadrunners of the AHL.

The news comes a day after the announcement that rookie forward Barrett Hayton, who had been on the Coyotes’ NHL roster all season, would be loaned to Team Canada for the World Junior Championship, leaving an open spot.

Burke figures to be the 13th forward as he replaces Hayton, who was regularly a healthy scratch.

The 22-year-old Burke has 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points in 24 games with Tucson this year, an impressive point-per-game pace. His 24 points lead the Roadrunners, and are one more than Lane Pederson, who has 23 (13 goals, 10 assists).

Burke was never drafted and instead signed as an undrafted free agent on an entry-level contract in March of 2018. He has since played 91 games in the AHL, scoring 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points in that span.

He’s a left-shot winger and a 5-foot-10, 165-pound native of Edmonton, Alta.
