The Arizona Coyotes took center Barrett Hayton fifth overall in the 2018 NHL Draft, and he flashed his high-end talent by scoring two goals in Team Canada’s debut game in this year’s World Junior Championship on Thursday.

Team Canada defeated USA, 6-4.

With Canada trailing 2-1 in the second period, Hayton got his first of the game by scoring on the power play on a one-timer from the right circle. He beat goaltender Spencer Knight, who was a first-round pick in 2019 by the Florida Panthers.

Here’s a look at his first goal:

The second goal was somewhat similar, coming from the bottom of the right circle, also on the power play.

Likely No. 1 overall pick in 2020 Alexis Lafreniere scored the go-ahead goal to make it 5-4 in the third period, and he was also the primary assist on both of Hayton’s goals.

Hayton is Canada’s captain as a second-year player in the World Junior Championship, which is taking place in Ostrava and Trinec, Czech Republic this year. The tournament runs through Jan. 5, 2020.

As the Coyotes’ Alex Kinkopf noted on Thursday, seven Coyotes prospects are playing in this year’s World Juniors: defensemen Ty Emberson (USA) and Victor Soderstrom (SWE), and forwards Jan Jenik (CZE), Matias Maccelli (FIN), Valentin Nussbaumer (SUI) and Aku Raty (FIN).

Jenik is an alternate captain for the Czech Republic. He scored a goal in his team’s win over Russia on Thursday.
