Less than 24 hours after the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl LIV victory, it’s a good time to think a year down the road.

And if you’re a betting man or woman, you’re going to want to know that the Arizona Cardinals have long odds to win the championship for Super Bowl LV.

The Cardinals have 80/1 odds of taking next season’s title on Feb. 7, 2021, in Tampa, Fla., according to Bet Online. Those odds are tied with the Cincinnati Bengals (2-14) and Jacksonville Jaguars (6-10).

They are only better than the Miami Dolphins (5-11) and Washington Redskins (3-13), who have 100/1 odds.

Atop the list of Super Bowl LV favorites are this year’s champions, the Chiefs, who have 5/1 odds of returning to the Super Bowl. The San Francisco 49ers (7/1), Baltimore Ravens (8/1) and the New England Patriots (9/1) are also in the chase.

Of course, a lot will change between now and the start of the 2020 season.

Arizona is coming off a 5-10-1 season, its first under head coach Kliff Kingsbury, and improved from the 2018 season drastically on the offensive side of the ball. Rookie quarterback Kyler Murray did enough to take home the AP Offensive Rookie of the Year honors while operating an offense that was one of two in the 32-team league to average 5.0 or more yards per carry.

What could help Arizona improve its championship odds?

Adding weapons at receiver, shoring up an offensive line with free agents at every starting position except guard and re-signing free agent running back Kenyan Drake are all priorities for the offense. Murray making a leap in his second NFL season could help considerably as well.

On defense, the Cardinals will first and foremost be searching for talent along the defensive line. That should help round out a foundation of talent including All-Pro pass-rusher Chandler Jones, cornerback Patrick Peterson, linebacker Jordan Hicks and safety Budda Baker.

Improvements could be had starting with free agency when the new league year begins on March 18 and through the NFL Draft that runs April 23-25.
