Tony Jefferson takes blame for Suns’ blowout loss to Keenan Allen’s Clippers

Mar 20, 2020, 8:40 PM

Former Arizona Cardinals safety and NFL free agent Tony Jefferson was saying all the right things.

He kept his virtual Phoenix Suns squad motivated.

He wanted them to keep fighting, playing a style of fast and physical basketball. Even when his team trailed, he refused to let doubt seep into his team.

Ultimately, though, that didn’t matter unless the execution was there on the sticks. And it wasn’t against the Los Angeles Clippers Friday night in an absolute blowout, a 102-59 Suns loss.

Jefferson, a huge Suns fan, was the third person to take control of the Suns through NBA2k20 on Twitch as they continue to play out the rest of their season on the platform via various guests.

The story of the game was turnovers, with 21 of them by the Suns leading to 29 points for the Clippers.

Phoenix trailed 16-2 early and never got the deficit back down to single digits.

Los Angeles Chargers Pro Bowl wideout Keenan Allen played as the Clippers and it honestly wasn’t a fair matchup. The core mechanic of NBA2K is a shot meter that players have to time the release of their shots for. The game will provide feedback that varies from red all the way to green on if the release was well-timed.

Allen was buttering home the “perfect release” staple of the franchise all game long and Jefferson had no answer. The Clippers shot 60% from the field.

But to give Jefferson credit, he never wanted his team to quit, even down 30-plus.

Deandre Ayton was the only Suns player to reach double figures, and upon seeing Devin Booker with only seven points on 3-of-14 shooting, Jefferson knew who was responsible.

“I gotta put this game on me,” he said.
