DeAndre Hopkins unofficially became an Arizona Cardinal less than two weeks ago after they agreed to acquire him from the Houston Texans, but he’s already making his impact on the community felt.

The four-time Pro Bowler announced over Twitter on Friday that he is pledging $150,000 to the Arizona coronavirus relief fund.

“To my new AZ family, I can’t wait until everything settles down so I can get out there and play in front of you all,” he wrote. “Until then I wanted to do my part for my new community and donate $150,000 to the Arizona coronavirus relief fund. Stay safe and rise up, Red Sea.”

Hopkins follows the team committing $1 million to the fund.

The fund has three prioritized areas to benefit those less fortunate.

It will help pay for personal protective equipment for medical personnel battling the COVID-19 virus; support non-profits that help vulnerable Arizonans through food banks, homeless shelters and domestic violence facilities; and help disadvantaged students pay for the technology necessary for them to transition to online learning through social distancing periods.

The Cardinals additionally have already set up a blood drive scheduled for Tuesday at State Farm Stadium. They plan to schedule out another drive in the future.

Cardinals outside linebacker Chandler Jones has also lent a hand, as he’ll buy 150,000 meals for food banks in Arizona and New York.
