Cardinals donate $1 million to Arizona coronavirus relief fund

Arizona Cardinals chairman and president Michael Bidwill announced Tuesday a $1 million donation by the team to the state’s coronavirus relief fund set up by Gov. Doug Ducey.

The fund has three prioritized areas of funding.

It will help pay for personal protective equipment for medical personnel battling the COVID-19 virus; support non-profits that help vulnerable Arizonans through food banks, homeless shelters and domestic violence facilities; and help disadvantaged students pay for the technology necessary for them to transition to online learning through social distancing periods.

“Like so many in our community, this unprecedented crisis has us asking what we can do to help and what might have the greatest impact,” Bidwill said in a statement. “We are grateful for the creation of this relief fund, are proud to support its critically important mission and hope that others throughout the community can join this effort in whatever way that they are able.

“As a team, we will continue to work on additional ways to make a difference and know that as a community we will get through this challenging time together.”

Those who have the ability to help others can also go to the website and donate.

As of Monday morning, 234 people in the state tested positive for coronavirus.

To help contain the spread of COVID-19 and other diseases spread through respiratory droplets, including the flu, health officials have issued the following recommendations:

• Wash your hands regularly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
• Refrain from touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
• Don’t make close contact with sick individuals.
• If you are sick, stay home.
• Cover coughs or sneezes with a tissue and throw the tissue away.
• Clean and disinfect objects that are frequently touched.
• If someone in your family tested postive for COVID-19, keep that entire household at home.
• Recommendations to cancel or postpone mass gatherings of 10 or more people
