Devin Booker isn’t playing 2K20 as Suns because it ‘messed up’ his player

Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker snuck past the Denver Nuggets’ Michael Porter Jr. in his first matchup of the players-only NBA 2K20 tournament on Sunday.

Neither played with their current NBA teams, as Booker leaned on the Milwaukee Bucks to overtake Porter’s Los Angeles Lakers to reach the quarterfinals. That’s not unusual for the tournament thus far, as few players have started the first round using their own teams.

Booker, it sounds like, might not ever.

“You should’ve just picked the Suns. I’ll pick the Nuggets,” Porter suggested.

“Eehhh, no! Eehhh, no!” Booker responded, laughing.

Booker later clarified that it was no disrespect to his current team. It’s just that, well, he’s not a fan of how 2K made his character.

We can’t be sure what’s displeasing to Booker about his 2K self — maybe he just doesn’t play well as himself or maybe it just doesn’t look like Booker.

Or maybe he’s not pleased about his rating. Booker has an 86 rating in the game, which is a top-40 player. Teammate Deandre Ayton is just a point behind at 85.

In any case, Booker’s public complaint might jump through a few public hoops to get the 2K designers to fix his virtual self.

Players in the 2K20 tournament only can use each team once, so Booker will move onto a matchup against Washington Wizards rookie Rui Hachimura in the quarterfinals not able to use the Bucks.

It seems like the Suns are off the table as well.

The quarterfinals will broadcast on ESPN2 on Tuesday night from 4-8 p.m.
