The Arizona Diamondbacks on Sunday morning announced they recalled infielder Wyatt Mathisen, while pitcher Artie Lewicki was optioned to the alternate training site.

Mathisen has yet to make his major league debut but hit .283 with 23 home runs and 61 RBIs in 87 games at Triple-A Reno last season.

The 26-year-old fits the team’s strategy of having players who can be put at multiple positions, as Mathisen spent time at first base, second base, third base and right field last season.

Most of his time, however, came at second and third base as he spent 79 games between the two positions last season.

Lewicki, meanwhile, allowed seven hits and two runs in 3.1 innings with the D-backs so far this season.

The move to recall Mathisen comes one day after the team optioned infielder Andy Young, their No. 18 prospect according to MLB.com, to the alternate training site in order to make room for starting pitcher Madison Bumgarner who was activated off the IL.
