Second baseman Ketel Marte has been reinstated from the 10-day injured list as the Arizona Diamondbacks moved Josh Rojas to that same IL, ending Rojas’ season.
Marte was suffering from wrist inflammation and placed on the 10-day IL on Sept. 9.
Rojas’ stint on the 10-day list due to back inflammation will put him out for the rest of the season with Arizona (20-34) having six games left.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Marte wanted to return for the last week of the year and set a tone heading into an offseason coming off a disappointing season.
“We believe this is what Ketel Marte stands on,” Lovullo told Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo. “He wanted to get back in this environment … I think that’s why he’s a special player.”
The 26-year-old Marte is hitting .290 with two home runs and 14 RBIs in 40 games after making the All-Star game in 2019. Marte’s 47 hits paced the team when he was placed on the IL, while his 13 doubles rank second only to first baseman Christian Walker (18) for the team lead.
Rojas appeared in 17 games and had 11 hits in 61 at-bats with two RBIs, seven walks and 16 strikeouts.
