The Pac-12 on Thursday announced that college basketball and football are set to return, but at least for now, that will not include fans.

The conference said any sporting competitions taking place on the campus of a Pac-12 school will not be allowed to have fans. That will run through the end of the year, and then the conference will revisit the subject in January based on health and safety considerations.

That means no fans at Pac-12 college football games, as the regular season for teams will wrap up in mid-December with the Pac-12 Championship Game and a seventh game for all other schools not in the title game.

That January date, though, could leave the door open for basketball. The season’s start date is set for Nov. 25, although no other information was released by the conference on the entire schedule.

The decision was made after a long-awaited Pac-12 CEO Group meeting on Thursday that included commissioner Larry Scott, as well as presidents and chancellors from across the conference.

The resumption of fall sports comes after the conference voted to postpone them in mid-August due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
