Baseball is full of exciting moments, and sometimes you have to tip your cap when someone makes a great catch — even if they practically snatch it out of your glove.

In the bottom of the fourth inning during Friday’s matchup between the Diamondbacks and Braves, a young fan stole the show.

Braves third baseman Austin Riley hit a fly ball to right field that tailed into the stands. Outfielder Kole Calhoun ran beyond the foul line, looking to make the catch and get the second out of the inning.

However, a young fan in the stands had other plans. He took matters into his own hands.

Calhoun was running toward the right field foul line and reached over the wall when a fan stuck out his glove and caught the foul ball over the D-backs’ right fielder.

Calhoun looked in the direction of the infield, thinking it may have been fan interference. Manager Torey Lovullo went to discuss with the umpire.

But after a moment, Calhoun looked back at the fan and held out his arm for a fist-bump.

“He was almost surprised the ball landed in his glove,” Calhoun said. “Give him the satisfaction. That was a heck of a play. …

“He had the net right in front of him so that ball was right on top of him. I felt like he kind of looked at me and right at his glove like, ‘Oh my gosh! I caught it!’”

Calhoun was smiling as he turned away from the fan and walked back to right field.

“It brings out the kid in you,” he said. “It kind of brings some perspective. That’s why we play the game. That kid is never going to forget that. What a moment for him.”

Fans at Truist Park in Atlanta applauded the young fan for his catch at the wall, and many on social media applauded Calhoun for his reaction.
