ASU basketball lands former Ohio State F Alonzo Gaffney

May 20, 2021, 12:45 PM

Former Ohio State Buckeye forward Alonzo Gaffney has agreed to join the Arizona State Sun Devils, reports Stadium’s Jeff Goodman.

Gaffney confirmed the news with an announcement via Twitter.

Gaffney left OSU after his freshman season in 2019-20 and played for Northwest Florida State College his sophomore season.

There, the 6-foot-9, 200-pound forward appeared in 21 games and averaged 8.4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

He shot 42% from the field and 33% from three-point range in 2020-21.

A four-star prospect out of Brewster Academy in the 2019 recruiting class, Gaffney made 17 appearances for Ohio State his freshman season and averaged 1.8 points and 1.4 rebounds in 6.8 minutes per game.

He adds to a lanky frontline for Arizona State that returns big man Jalen Graham and fellow oversized wing Kimani Lawrence. Robert Morris transfer A.J. Bramah, freshman wing Demari Williams and freshmen bigs Enoch Boakye and William Felton have signed letters of intent with ASU.

The Sun Devils lost rotation wings Taeshon Cherry and Marcus Bagley, backup center Chris Osten and little-used freshman big Pavlo Dziuba to transfers this offseason.
