Danny Granger has opted in to his $2.1 million player option with the Phoenix Suns for the 2015-2016 season according to ESPN’s Marc Stein. Granger had until the June 29 deadline to make a decision.

In 2009 Granger won the NBA’s most improved player award and was an All-Star as well.
Granger did not play for the Suns in the 2014-2015 season. He has had an injury-riddled career that had him barely able to stay on the court for the past couple of years.

Granger played a combined total of 76 games in the past three seasons. This was an easy decision for Granger since he was unlikely to receive any other offers besides the league minimum salary.

The Suns are hoping that Granger will be the next player with an expanded injury history to come to Phoenix and find success. Past examples of this include Grant Hill, Steve Nash, and Channing Frye.

Granger was a part of the Goran Dragic trade with the Miami Heat in February.

The Suns roster now stands at nine players. Brandan Wright, Gerald Green, Marcus Thornton, and Earl Barron are unrestricted free agents while Brandon Knight is a restricted free agent and Jerel McNeal has a team option.

The Suns also have two selections in the NBA Draft on June 25.
