After winning Olympic gold with USA men’s basketball Friday, JaVale McGee and his mother, Pamela, became the first ever first mother-son gold medal duo in U.S. Olympic history.

Pamela McGee earned a gold medal with the U.S. women’s basketball team at the 1984 Los Angles Olympics, and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.

Although McGee did not appear in Friday’s game, this is a new feeling for him after appearing in his first ever Olympic games.

“It’s an amazing feeling, man. I’ve got a gold medal. My mother has a gold medal,” McGee said to AP writer Tim Reynolds. “You can’t really explain it. Just knowing you’re the best in the world, amazing, man.”

The three-time NBA champion and 13-year veteran McGee was signed by the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday after scoring 25 points in six games for Team USA.

McGee, 33, will join Phoenix’s roster as a backup center and mentor to 23-year-old Deandre Ayton.
