Prior to Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Phillies, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced they recalled second baseman Andrew Young from Triple-A Reno and have released catcher Bryan Holaday.

Young made his debut for the D-backs in 2020 and has played in 45 games at the major league level in 2021. He’s batting .228 with six homers, 14 RBIs and has a .596 slugging percentage.

In 163 bats with Reno, Young has 46 hits with 26 of them being for extra-bases or home runs.

As for Holaday, the veteran catcher was released after appearing in 13 games for the D-backs in 2021. He had an average of .194 and drove in one run in 34 plate appearances.

Holaday signed with Arizona at the beginning of 2021. His release comes at a time where the D-backs have seen an emergence at the plate from other catchers, Daulton Varsho and Carson Kelly.

In the last 15 games, Varsho is batting .311 with four homers and nine RBIs to go with a .689 slugging percentage. In that same time, Kelly has hit for .295 with two homers, driving in eight runs and posting a .523 slugging percentage.
