After playing eight years and winning a Super Bowl for the Philadelphia Eagles, new Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz said an emotional goodbye to the only team he had previously known.

“I would just like to start by saying that I am eternally grateful for the love and support I felt in the eight years in this amazing city,” Ertz said in a letter posted to his Twitter.

“You have inspired me to push my limits each and every day to make sure I left no stone untouched in my pursuit to represent you the way you deserved.”

Arizona watched breakout tight end Maxx Williams’ season end in a game against the San Francisco 49ers but was swift to act in acquiring the Philadelphia asset.

In response, the Cardinals sent a 2022 fifth-round draft pick and rookie cornerback Tay Gowan to Philadelphia for the 30-year old tight end on Friday.

Ertz posted 579 catches for 6,267 yards, scored 38 touchdowns, ranks second all-time in franchise recptions and appeared in three Pro Bowls in his career with the Eagles.

“From the bottom of my heart, I am eternally grateful to you for embracing me, cheering for me and loving me as only the greatest fans could,” Ertz wrote.

“Philly, we are world champions and no one can take that from us. This is home. Philadelphia is home.”
