After a five-week sack hiatus, Arizona Cardinals linebacker Chandler Jones only needed less than a half to get the better of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the 31-17 win on Sunday.

The takedown not only snapped Jones’ sack-less streak, it elevated him to the top of the team’s franchise record book.

With Jones’ sack in Week 9, the linebacker passed the late Freddie Joe Nunn (66.5) for the most sacks in franchise history with 67. Jones moved into the No. 1 spot by playing just 76 games. Nunn took 131 contests to achieve his mark.

Fittingly, Jones paid homage to the former Cardinal, revealing a shirt featuring Nunn after the sack.

“It felt good. I wore that shirt for two games. … and that’s a huge milestone, honestly,” Jones told reporters after the game. “I dedicate that sack to Freddie and his family. My condolences are to him. Hopefully we can keep this rolling and keep it going throughout the season. The spirits are high right now on the team and hopefully we can carry that over to the Panthers.”

Jones’ sack was one of five the Cardinals registered throughout the matchup on Sunday, with Markus Golden picking up a career-high three and Jordan Phillips adding another.

Jones finished with three tackles, one of which was for a loss, and two QB hits.

Arizona’s defense held San Francisco largely in check in Week 9, allowing just four of the 49ers’ third-down conversion attempts and keeping their running game to a measly 39 yards on 11 carries.
