Russell Wilson would be starting for Arizona Cardinals, according to Huard

Russell Wilson could have been starting for the Arizona Cardinals Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks, not the other way around.

Wilson, selected in the third round (75th overall) in April’s NFL Draft, earned the starting job in Seattle after an incredible preseason in which he completed 40-of-63 passes for 536 yards and five touchdowns.

He beat out high-priced free agent acquisition Matt Flynn for the job and Seattle, and ESPN Radio host and NCAA analyst Brock Huard says he would have won the job if he had landed in Arizona, too.

“I promise both of you this,” he told Arizona Sports 620’s Burns and Gambo, “If Russell Wilson would have been drafted by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round, not [Ryan] Lindley late, he would have come in here and beaten out John Skelton and Kevin Kolb so handily that you guys would also be feeling Russell-mania.”

Russell-mania sure sounds better than Skelton-mania, but then again it’s worth noting the diminutive passer has yet to throw a pass in a meaningful NFL game against a heavily-scheming defense. And with the Seahawks selecting before the Cardinals in the third round, the only way Arizona could have landed the Wisconsin Badger would have been by making a draft-day trade. As it stands, the Seahawks got a QB while the Cardinals go promising rookie cornerback Jamell Fleming.
