D-backs drop fourth straight in loss to Rockies: By The Numbers

The Arizona Diamondbacks have failed to win a single one of their first five home series.

They are 2-15 at home, 5-15 in the division and they are tied with the Chicago Cubs for the fewest wins in all of baseball, with just eight.

It was bad. It’s getting worse.

On Tuesday, rookie pitcher Mike Bolsinger got out to another solid start, allowing just one Rockies baserunner through the first three innings. But the second time through the order, trouble arrived. And he was toast by the third.

The Diamondbacks were up 2-0 after the second inning, thanks to Miguel Montero’s deeply-hit double, a failed pickoff attempt and an Aaron Hill sacrifice fly and then an RBI-double by rookie Chris Owings, driving in Eric Chavez.

But the lead soon dissipated.

The red-hot Rockies used RBI base hits by hitting streak wonders Justin Morneau (13) and Nolan Arenado (19) in the fourth to ruffle Bolsinger, who would only manage four more outs.

Chavez’s fourth-inning RBI single was erased by Troy Tulowitzki’s two-run home run in the sixth, giving him his fourth extra-base hit of the first two games of the series. He has a 1.633 on-base-plus-slugging percentage over his last 11 games.

A.J. Pollock’s late-inning heroics tied the game in the eighth, but the Diamondbacks misfortunes resumed almost immediately, when closer Addison Reed gave up a go-ahead home run to Drew Stubbs and the Rockies moments later.

The Diamondbacks drummed up something of a rally in their half of the ninth, getting men on first and second base with one out, but it was to no adieu, as both Hill and Chavez took the first pitches of their at-bats to centerfield for flyouts, stranding Paul Goldschmidt and Montero.

The Diamondbacks got one base hit with runners in scoring position Tuesday, going 1-for-9 on the night while stranding 11 total on base.

After putting together a three-game winning streak Wednesday through Friday of last week, the Diamondbacks have once again lost four games in a row for the fourth time this season. From April 11-16, they lost six in a row. Counting the three-game losing streak to begin the season, the Diamondbacks have five times had losing streaks of three games or more this season.

Aaron Hill’s last seven games have been spectacular. The Diamondbacks second baseman is hitting 11-for-25 (.440) with seven RBI, a home run, a triple, four doubles and a 1.300 on-base-slugging percentage (.500 OBP, .800 SLG).

Catcher Miguel Montero has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games, going 10-for-30 with a home run, three doubles, seven runs batted in and 10 walks.

Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau has a season-high 13-game hitting streak working.

Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki has 17 hits in his last 38 at-bats. That’s a .447 batting average with six home runs, five doubles, 16 RBI and 12 walks. He has a jaw-dropping 1.053 slugging percentage in that span (11 games) and an incredible .583 on-base percentage.

Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado (2-for-4) extended his career-best hitting streak to 19 games, the longest hitting streak in baseball this season.
