The Phoenix Suns will be without guard Aaron Holiday on Friday night against the New Orleans Pelicans due to right ankle soreness.

Holiday was listed as out on the team’s injury report hours before tip-off.

Suns head coach Monty Williams told reporters pregame on Friday that the guard picked up the injury in Thursday night’s 124-104 win over the Thunder in Oklahoma City.

“He was able to finish the game, so we thought he was fine,” Williams explained. “We wouldn’t have had him out there but I guess when the adrenaline wore off, he felt sore.

“I talked to him last night, he [said], ‘We’ll see how I feel (Friday).’ Then we pretty much just iced him. He was trying to get back on the floor today, but it was something that happened (Thursday) night in the game.”

Holiday has appeared in four games with Phoenix since being acquired from the Indiana Pacers at the NBA trade deadline on Feb. 10.

The guard has been a spark off the bench both offensively and defensively with his ability to seemingly be all over the court at once.

Holiday has scored in double-figures twice in those four contests and has notched at least five assists and one steal in each of his last two appearances en route to a +11 and +16 plus-minus in two Suns wins, the last of which was the first without starting point guard Chris Paul.

The 25-year-old guard is averaging over 16 minutes per game for Williams since arriving in the Valley and is shooting 77.8% from the field and 75% from 3.

Phoenix hosts the Pelicans at Footprint Center at 7 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
