Arizona Cardinals head coach Kliff Kingsbury and college football, an avenue some think he would consider given the right opportunity down the road.

He made a name for himself in the college ranks and was even linked to a then-vacant Oklahoma head-coaching gig back in November.

But if there was ever a time to put those thoughts to bed, it’s this week.

Not only did Kingsbury receive an extension that runs through 2027, he explained his desire to avoid having to recruit at the college level at all costs while on The Pat McAfee Show on Thursday.

“I tell everybody and I’m not making this up, I would do anything before I went back to that,” Kingsbury said. “Like I would do any job.

“It’s full time now with the social media and you’re either tweeting, calling, facetiming and there’s like this constant anxiety, because if you’re not doing it, the university down the street is. It just never goes away. (In the NFL), when you’re done with the football, you’re done, you go live your life. College, it just never goes away.”

Now with an extension in hand and the door firmly shut on the college scene for now, Kingsbury can turn his attention to aiding quarterback Kyler Murray in his continued progression as an NFL QB.

Despite the recent statement his agent Erik Burkhardt posted on Monday, Kingsbury, who is also represented by the agent, is confident in the relationship he and Murray have fostered.

Like Kingsbury said, anything is better than recruiting.

“The relationship is great,” Kingsbury said. “(General manager Steve Keim) and I literally banked our careers on him. When you take a guy No. 1 and trade away a top-10 pick from the year before (quarterback Josh Rosen), that’s never been done, and you’re all-in.

“Everybody understands that the business is the business and we’re just working through it right now.”
