Phoenix Suns forward Cam Johnson returned to the practice court for the first time on Saturday since injuring his quad against the New York Knicks on March 4.

However, the 26-year-old out of North Carolina was ruled out for Sunday’s contest against the Philadelphia 76ers on the team’s injury report.

Head coach Monty Williams spoke with the media on Saturday to discuss the possibility of getting Johnson and the Suns back to full health.

“He looked pretty good as far as getting up and down the floor,” he said. “His conditioning wasn’t terrible, I thought he would be lacking there.

“He’s still in progression mode right now. He’s not in a situation or position where we say he is playing in the next couple of days. We still have to see how his body responds to days like today.”

Johnson was seen at practice going through each team drill, getting shots up, showcasing lateral movement as well as enduring extra conditioning.

Johnson has flourished in his third year with Phoenix, averaging career highs in minutes per game, points, field goal and three-point shooting, rebounds, assists and steals.

Although the Suns wrapped up the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, there are now seven regular-season games remaining for a potential Johnson return.
