Lakers’ LeBron James out, Anthony Davis in vs. Suns in potential elimination game

Apr 5, 2022, 11:23 AM | Updated: 6:39 pm

The Los Angeles Lakers will be without LeBron James when they take on the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night due to an ankle injury.

However, the Lakers will have big man Anthony Davis, who will be suiting up for Los Angeles at Footprint Center after being listed as questionable coming into the contest.

It marks the second straight game James will miss due to the ankle issue. James sat out two games after spraining the ankle on March 27. He returned on Friday before not playing on Sunday.

James, who is vying for the NBA scoring title, is averaging 30.3 points to go along with 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists over 37.2 minutes per game. He’s shooting 62% from the field and 35.9% from long range.

The Lakers enter the matchup on the brink of elimination from playoff consideration, sitting two games back of the San Antonio Spurs for the Western Conference’s final play-in spot. The Spurs also own the tiebreaker.

The Lakers have four games left in the regular season and the Spurs tip off in Denver against the Nuggets 90 minutes before things get underway in Phoenix. If San Antonio is victorious, Los Angeles would be just one loss or a Spurs win away from elimination.

Additionally, Phoenix can set a new franchise mark for single-season wins (63) with a victory over the Lakers.

This season, the Suns are 3-0 against the Lakers. James played in all three of Los Angeles’ losses to Phoenix.

On the Suns’ side, Frank Kaminsky (knee) and Dario Saric (knee) are the only Phoenix players listed as out for the matchup.

The Suns and Lakers get underway Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Tune to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station for all the action.
