Dodgers, Gordon tag Hudson late in win over D-backs: By The Numbers

...

When the Arizona Diamondbacks failed plate a single run against Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Hyun-Jin Ryu after loading the bases with no outs in the top of the second it looked to be a game-changing moment.

After all, Ryu closed out the inning with punchouts of Nolan Reimold and Chase Anderson sandwiched around a lineout by Tuffy Gosewisch, before retiring 13 of the next 14 next batters he faced.

But trailing 2-0 in the seventh — thanks to a two-run blast by Adrian Gonzalez off of D-backs right-hander Chase Anderson in the opening frame — the D-backs exacted a measure of revenge on Ryu.

Run-scoring hits by Cody Ross (double) and A.J. Pollock (single) knotted the score up at two and chased the South Korea native after 6.2 innings of work.

The offensive effort would go for naught, however, as Los Angeles greeted Daniel Hudson rather rudely in just his second big league appearance in more than two years.

Hudson, who returned from two Tommy John surgeries early this week to pitch a scoreless inning against the San Diego Padres, allowed three hits in the eighth, including a go-ahead RBI single by Dee Gordon.

The Dodgers would tack on two more off of reliever Will Harris — runs charged to Hudson — on an RBI double by Hanley Ramirez en route to a 5-2 victory.

With the win, Los Angeles improved to 14-4 this season against Arizona.

Here’s a look back at the three-run loss by the numbers:

2:

In 13.2 innings of work against Arizona in 2014, Ryu has allowed two earned run on nine hits.

2.17

Counting Anderson’s productive outing, D-backs starters have a combined ERA of 2.17 in their last 10 appearances.

4 and 17:

Gonzalez’s two-run shot was just the latest in a long line of damage-inducing hits he’s had vs. the D-backs this season.

In 56 at-bats, the Dodgers first baseman has four home runs and 17 RBI to go along with a .411 average.

10:

Arizona managed to extend its errorless streak to a season-high 10 games.

11:

Anderson recorded the 11th career start of his rookie campaign — allowing two earned runs in six innings of work.

16:

Mark Trumbo reached base for the 16th consecutive game with a double to right in the second inning.

The streak is the third-longest of his big league career.

56:

Ross’ RBI double was his first run-scoring plate appearance since July 13 — a span of 56 days.
