Diamondbacks RHP Drey Jameson to injured list with hip issue

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks placed relief pitcher Drey Jameson on the 15-day injured list shortly before Tuesday’s game against the Athletics.

Jameson is dealing with right hip inflammation and was placed on the IL retroactive to Monday, the team announced. Arizona recalled right-handed reliever Gerardo Carrillo from Triple-A Reno to take his place and potentially make his MLB debut.

Jameson made 42 pitches in two innings of work on Sunday during Arizona’s seven-run comeback against the St. Louis Cardinals. The righty has pitched in 11 major league games this season, mostly in lower leverage situations, and has worked a 4.67 ERA.

Injuries have played a major role in Jameson’s career to this point, as he missed all of 2024 after Tommy John surgery and dealt with loose bodies in his elbow last season.

The roster move was made after manager Torey Lovullo’s pregame media session, so updates on the severity of this injury are to follow.

Carrillo signed a minor league deal with the Diamondbacks over the offseason and stood out in spring training with an upper 90s mph fastball. He owns a 4.15 ERA in Reno with four saves, 11.8 strikeouts per nine innings and 5.8 walks per nine innings.

His season high for pitches is 38, and he has recorded more than three outs fairly regularly if the need for length arises.

The Diamondbacks previously optioned reliever Juan Burgos to Reno to make room for left-handed starter Kohl Drake.
