Diamondbacks (28-33) left-hander Madison Bumgarner had a solid start in Arizona’s 4-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies (30-29) on Saturday afternoon.

Bumgarner went five innings, allowing three runs (one earned) on six hits (one home run) and two walks while striking out four on 91 pitches (57 strikes).

And for the second consecutive game, an infield error came back to bite the D-backs in the same inning via the longball.

With one out in the bottom of the second inning and Arizona trailing 1-0, Diamondbacks third baseman Josh Rojas booted a ground ball that allowed Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera to get on base.

Bumgarner managed to get the next batter, Matt Vierling, to hit another grounder to Rojas, who fired to second baseman Jake Hager for the second out of the inning.

However, Hager’s throw to first baseman Christian Walker — which would’ve been an inning-ending double play — was offline and hit the front of the first base dugout to allow Vierling to reach base safely.

And just like Friday’s error on a would-be inning-ending double play by Ketel Marte that allowed Kyle Schwarber to hit a three-run home run, Phillies shortstop Bryson Stott hit a two-run blast to give Philadelphia a 3-0 lead after two innings of play.

Bumgarner was able to settle down and put up three straight goose eggs before D-backs manager Torey Lovullo brought RHP J.B. Wendelken in for relief.

Offensively, the Diamondbacks didn’t provide their pitching staff any run support and only mustered six hits and one walk while going 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
