The Arizona Diamondbacks have received a few “nibbles” of interest on left-handed starter Madison Bumgarner as of trade deadline day morning, reports MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.

That’s about eight hours prior to the Tuesday 3 p.m. MST deadline for MLB trades this season.

Heyman adds that a little interest in Bumgarner is all there is involving Arizona’s top three pitchers, as the D-backs have “determined Zac Gallen and Merrill Kelly aren’t going anywhere.”

The 33-year-old Bumgarner is 6-10 this season with a 3.83 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. While he’s been relatively healthy this season, Bumgarner followed a hot start (1.17 ERA in five April starts) with less successful months of May, June and July in terms of ERA and opponent batting average.

That said, he went 3-2 on the mound in the month of July.

Bumgarner has an additional two years left on his contract after this season. He makes $23 million this year and next before a significant drop to $14 million for 2024.

The D-backs signed Bumgarner to a five-year, $85 million deal in December of 2019. After Bumgarner was one of the best starters in baseball last decade, he struggled in the pandemic-affected 2020 season with a 6.48 ERA across nine outings. It was an improvement last year, a 4.67 ERA in 26 starts, but not the type of production Arizona could have expected when inking him to that contract.
