Why are the Diamondbacks wearing hats that do not match their jerseys this weekend?

Major League Baseball is celebrating Hall of Fame Induction Weekend, and therefore teams around the league are wearing throwback caps with Hall of Fame patches on the right side.

The Arizona Diamondbacks are wearing a white hat with a purple brim and their classic purple and teal logo this weekend at the Washington Nationals. Last year, Arizona wore their throwback purple hats on the road.

The quirk of this setup is that teams are not wearing their old jerseys to match the caps, and Arizona wearing road gray uniforms on Friday made the white caps stick out even further.

Some teams such as the New York Yankees, Minnesota Twins and Pittsburgh Pirates who have kept a consistent color scheme throughout their history look fairly seamless.

Others like the Diamondbacks or San Diego Padres who have altered their color schemes, not so much.

The Diamondbacks have a purple uniform in their current set, the City Connect Serpientes look, but those jerseys are only worn at home.

Carlos Beltrán, Andruw Jones and Jeff Kent are the 2026 Hall of Fame inductees getting enshrined in Cooperstown. Speaking of hats, Beltrán will don a New York Mets cap on his plaque, Jones will represent the Atlanta Braves and Kent the San Francisco Giants.
