Long-time Phoenix Suns play-by-play man Al McCoy on Friday was honored by being inducted to the gold circle of the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

McCoy became eligible for serving in his broadcast industry for 50 or more years and built a strong reputation, to go with strong professional achievements and additional public service.

The voice of the Suns is prepared to enter his 51st season at his current post. His career with the Suns began in 1972.

McCoy is the longest-tenured NBA play-by-play voice and won the Curt Gowdy Media Award in 2007. He was inducted into the Arizona Sports Hall of Fame (2009), the Iowa Hall of Pride (2015) and the Suns’ Ring of Honor (2017).

McCoy has made his in-game catchphrases famous, including “Shazam!” whenever the Suns hit a three.

In addition to McCoy’s honor with the Rocky Mountain Southwest Chapter, the Suns’ broadcast teams won Emmy awards in two categories: live sporting events for a season and promotion sports.

Their on- and off-air broadcast team that won the live sporting event production category includes Bob Adlhoch, David Hughes, Brock Kraft, Dan Siekmann, Eddie Johnson, Kevin Ray, Ann Meyers Drysdale, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Eddie Dean and Brianna Jonelis.

Phoenix’s “Rally the Valley” spoken word campaign that won for promotions was led by Graham Wincott, Nick Williams, Christopher Price and Katryna Seki.
