Grinnell College sets NCAA record, only shoots 3-pointers in win

Some say that Stephen Curry sparked a revolution in basketball that encouraged teams to take more 3-point shots.

Before Curry revolutionized the NBA with his lethal ability and frequency from 3-point range, there was Grinnell College.

On Thursday night, the small school in Grinnell, Iowa set an NCAA record of 111 3-point shot attempts in a single game, making 36% in a 124-67 win over Emmaus Bible College.

Every single shot attempt by Grinnell was from behind the 3-point arc.

To put the numbers in perspective, the average NBA team takes just 88.2 shot attempts per game and only 34.2 3-point attempts per game.

Since the 2003-04 season, 3-point attempts have increased by 20 per game per team in the NBA.

This was not the first time Grinnell College emasculated Emmaus Bible College.

In 2018, Grinnell made 42 3-pointers against Emmaus Bible to set the NCAA single-game record for makes.

They also made waves in 2012 and 2013 when guard Jack Taylor scored more than 100 points in a single game in both seasons.
