Suns-Warriors injury report: Deandre Ayton and Landry Shamet out, Steph Curry to start

Jan 10, 2023, 6:38 PM | Updated: 6:42 pm

The Phoenix Suns will not have Deandre Ayton (ankle sprain) or Landry Shamet (hip soreness) on Tuesday when they visit the Golden State Warriors, according to The Arizona Republic’s Duane Rankin.

Meanwhile, the home team will receive a boost with All-Star Stephen Curry returning to the starting lineup from a shoulder injury, according to ESPN’s Kendra Andrews. He’s been out since Dec. 14 and missed 11 games.

Curry could return on a minutes restriction, Andrews added.

Ayton is dealing with a left ankle sprain suffered Sunday while shooting guard Shamet has a sore right hip and forward Torrey Craig is nursing a right ankle sprain. Craig is questionable to play.

Meanwhile for the Suns, shooting guard Devin Booker (left groin strain), point guard Chris Paul (right hip soreness), wing Cam Johnson (right meniscus tear), backup point guard Cam Payne (right foot sprain) and forward Jae Crowder (not with team) all remain out.

That means that only eight players are not listed by Phoenix on the injury report: guards Josh Okogie and Duane Washington Jr.; wings Mikal Bridges, Damion Lee and Ish Wainright; and bigs Jock Landale, Dario Saric and Bismack Biyombo.

Suns head coach Monty Williams on Monday announced that Payne would be re-evaluated in two weeks and Paul was day-to-day.

Paul missed Sunday night’s 112-98 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers at Footprint Center after requesting to be taken out during the second quarter of Friday night’s 104-96 home loss to the Miami Heat.

Golden State shooting guard Klay Thompson (left knee soreness) and forward Andre Iguodala (left hip injury management) are both probable, while center James Wiseman (left ankle sprain), forward Jonathan Kuminga (foot sprain) and JaMychal Green (lower right leg infection) are out.

The Suns tip off against the Warriors on Tuesday from Chase Center at 8 p.m. on Arizona Sports 98.7, the Arizona Sports App and ArizonaSports.com.
