The Arizona Coyotes weren’t without chances Thursday, when they were shutout, 2-0, by the Minnesota Wild. But they were without a result once again, landing in the losing column for the third straight game.

The Coyotes were neck and neck with the hosts throughout an uneventful first period. They managed the first three shots on goal and looked determined in the game’s opening moments, creating quality opportunities up until the first intermission.

But early in the second, Wild center Charlie Coyle pounced on a shot from defenseman Jared Spurgeon, tipping it past Mike Smith. Moments later, Wild right wing Jason Pominville provided insurance for goalkeeper Darcy Kuemper, scoring on a breakaway, thanks to another assist from Spurgeon.

The Coyotes had a pair of power play opportunities thereafter — one in the second period and again in the third — but they made no use of them.

Here’s a look at Thursday’s game by the numbers:

3

The Coyotes suffered their third straight loss Thursday, also losing their third in regulation, to drop their record to 2-3-1 on the season.

19

The Coyotes laid 19 hits on their opponent — eight more than they received. Rob Klinkhammer led the way, reording six. Shane Doan also had four.

27

Arizona’s relative success in the power play faltered Thursday, as they squandered two man-advantage opportunites. They are now converting 27 percent of their power plays.

39

Antoine Vermette and the Coyotes won nearly twice the faceoffs of the Wild, grabbing 39. Minnesota had just 21.
