Cubs ‘definitely have interest’ in trading for Diamondbacks 3B Eugenio Suarez
Arizona Sports' John Gambadoro reported that the Chicago Cubs "definitely have interest" in acquiring Eugenio Suarez on Wednesday.

Major League Baseball’s trade deadline is less than 24 hours away, and there is some clarity for the market of Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez.
Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reported that the Chicago Cubs “definitely have interest” in acquiring Suarez on Wednesday.

MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reported on Wednesday morning that Chicago, Seattle, Detroit and Philadelphia were the primary teams in the race, as there remains a robust market for the All-Star and clubhouse favorite. Gambadoro also mentioned the Milwaukee Brewers as a team of interest on Arizona Sports’ Burns & Gambo.
The Cubs and Brewers are in a battle for the National League Central, with Milwaukee leading Chicago by one game entering deadline day.
For Chicago, third base is the position that has accumulated the fewest WAR (Baseball Reference) on the team, excluding pitchers.
Rookie Matt Shaw is hitting .224 with a .644 OPS this season as a 23-year-old, although he has been hot of late. He’s hit .318 over his last 15 games and is a better defender than Suarez.
Suarez is the top hitter on the market with an .896 OPS, 36 home runs and 87 RBIs. He would add pop to any lineup, someone capable of going on a power surge as a four-time NL Player of the Week this season alone. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale wrote that there is a 99.9% chance he gets traded.
The Cubs entered the 2025 season with a top 10 farm system, headlined by slugging outfielder Owen Caissie, 23, whom ESPN’s Jesse Rogers reported the Cubs are willing to trade but not for a rental. Rogers mentioned the team’s No. 5 prospect, 23-year-old pitcher Jaxon Wiggins, as a player teams have expressed interest in.
Chicago leads the major leagues in runs scored and is also in the market for pitching.

Problem is that Cubs don't really have very good pitching prospects.Best two are #5 Cubs prospect Jaxon Wiggins (great fastball but problem with control.His upside is mid rotation starter but most likely high leverage reliever)and #8 Ryan Gallagher (projected as 4th/5th starter).Both Wiggins and Gallagher are in AA so they probably won't be ready next year. If they can get those two or at least one of them + more prospects would probably be worth it.

Not only can you get an infielder, but how about a controllable starter pitcher in E-Rod! But wait there’s more!
We also have a Right handed outfielder in Gurriel Jr, thus you get a pitcher, an infielder, and an outfielder for the price of one!
Never mind that they are contracted to get paid $118 million over the next few years; You’re the Cubs and money is no object for you guys, right? Never mind he’s the worst starter ERA on the Dbacks with this albatross of a contract, every team has a pitching coach more experienced then ours to right the ship! Never mind the outfielder is near the bottom on the team in hitting, surely you Cubs have some coaches that can tap into the potential!
