ASU unveils white helmets to celebrate Sparky’s birthday during game at Colorado

ASU football will be wearing the classic Sparky logo on white helmets for the first time in school history Saturday.

The Sun Devils will be wearing the helmets to celebrate Sparky’s 79th birthday, which is on Nov. 20.

Nov. 20, 1946 is the official date when the Arizona State University Student Council first adopted Sparky as the mascot. 

The Sun Devils wore similar lids at Mississippi State, the team’s second game of the season, but those helmets instead featured the alternate Sparky logo and maroon facemasks.

To go along with the white helmets, the team will be wearing white jerseys featuring a maroon “Arizona State” across the chest and maroon numbers with gold trim.

It will also be the first time the Sun Devils have worn maroon pants since going with an all-maroon look against Texas Tech and just the second time this season the Sun Devils have sported maroon pants.
