Collin Gillespie hits game-winning shot late as Suns come back to beat Timberwolves

Collin Gillespie scored the game-winning shot as the Phoenix Suns overcame an eight-point deficit late to beat the Minnesota Timberwolves 114-113 in NBA Cup action on Friday.

Trailing by eight points in the last minute of the game, the Suns rattled off seven points in a 40-second span to make it 113-112.

After Dillon Brooks fouled out on an offensive foul with 18 seconds remaining, Ryan Dunn would foul Anthony Edwards to send him to the free throw line. Edwards would miss both free throw attempts and Dunn would get the rebound to secure possession with 11.5 seconds remaining as the Suns took a timeout.

Following the timeout, Gillespie would hit a jump shop with six seconds left to give the Suns the lead. Julius Randle would miss a three-point shot at the buzzer that sealed the Suns’ comeback win.

With the win, the Suns (10-6) improved to 2-0 in West Group A of the NBA Cup.

The Suns won despite Brooks and Devin Booker fouling out late in the fourth quarter. Phoenix led by as many as 18 points in the game but committed 28 turnovers. Brooks led the team with 22 points (on 8 of 17 shooting), five rebounds and two steals.

Edwards led the Timberwolves with 41 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals.

The Suns continue their three-game home stand on Sunday against the San Antonio Spurs. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
