Brooks Koepka to play in WM Phoenix Open amid PGA TOUR return

Brooks Koepka is back on the PGA TOUR and will play in this year’s WM Phoenix Open, he announced on Monday.

He marks the latest golfer to commit to the WM Phoenix Open, joining world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

“I want to thank my family and my team for their continued support throughout every step of my professional career,” Koepka said on X. “When I was a child, I always dreamed about competing on the PGA TOUR, and I am just as excited today to announce that I am returning to the PGA Tour. Being closer to home and spending more time with my family makes this opportunity especially meaningful to me.

“I believe in where the PGA TOUR is headed with new leadership, new investors, and an equity program that gives players a meaningful ownership stake. I also understand there are financial penalties associated with this decision, and I accept those. Finally, I want to thank the fans. Your support means more to me today than ever before, and I look forward to seeing you soon at the Farmers Insurance Open and WM Phoenix Open.”

Koepka, a two-time WM Phoenix Open winner (2015, 2021) and five-time major champion, left the PGA TOUR in 2022 to join LIV Golf. He won five times while with LIV Golf but left the circuit last month.

The five-time major winner now returns to the PGA TOUR through a one-time pathway called the “Returning Member Program.” His first tournament back on the circuit will be the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines later this month, ahead of his return to the WM Phoenix Open in February.

The return doesn’t come without stipulations, including a $5 million donation by Koepka. He is also ineligible for both the Player Equity Program for the five years and 2026 FedEx Cup bonus payout. Koepka also must qualify for any of the tour’s signature events.

Koepka is one of four golfers who are eligible to return to the PGA TOUR under the program’s guidelines, with Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Cameron Smith being the other three. According to the tour, only LIV Golf players who have won a major or The Players Championship between 2022 and 2025 were eligible to return.

The trio of DeChambeau, Rahm and Smith have until Feb. 2 to decide if they want to return to the PGA TOUR.

“This is a one-time, defined window and is not a precedent for future situations,” PGA TOUR CEO Brian Rolapp said in a statement on Monday. “Once the door closes, there is no promise that this path will be available again.”
