NBA rescinds Dillon Brooks’ technical foul vs. Heat, puts him back to 13 on year

The NBA rescinded Dillon Brooks’ 14th technical foul of the season, which officials called on the Phoenix Suns wing during the third quarter of Tuesday’s game against the Miami Heat.

Brooks caught a pass in transition ready to go up for a bucket before Heat guard Norman Powell fouled him on the gather. Brooks gave a bit of follow-through with his arms in an attempt to sell the foul, which earned the initial technical.

If the technical stood, Brooks would have been two technical fouls away from a one-game suspension.

After reaching 16 technical fouls and the first one-game suspension, additional games are tacked on after each further pair (at the 18th, 20th and beyond technical fouls).

When Tuesday’s technical was initially called, it was Brooks’ second straight game being assessed the foul. He earned his 13th on Sunday and called out officials postgame, claiming he’s treated differently than other players.

“They give me a (technical) for who I am. That’s weird, and that’s unappreciative,” Brooks said. “This is the same ref who gets manhandled in the Laker game and doesn’t give a (technical) out. I’m not going to give any names. You can go look up who it is, but this guy needs to get looked at seriously.

“This is why I have a stigma with refs, and this is why they’re so quick to (technical) me.”

Brooks’ now-13 technical fouls lead the league, with only Los Angeles Lakers guard Luka Doncic (10) joining him with double-digits. Devin Booker, who is questionable for Phoenix’s Thursday game against the Detroit Pistons, isn’t far behind (fourth) with seven.

Brooks is the Suns’ second leading scorer this season at 21.3 points per game, adding 3.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.2 steals per game.
