‘He just makes it look smooth and easy’: Carson Beck ends Red & White Practice with a bang

GLENDALE — I don’t think the Carson Beck-Jacoby Brissett chatter is going away anytime soon, especially after Sunday’s Red & White Practice.

Following an impressive preseason debut in a Hall of Fame Game loss to the Carolina Panthers, Beck doubled down with a strong finish to practice after an overall inconsistent day from the offense as a whole.

But of the four quarterbacks on the grass, it was Beck who looked the best on Sunday.

Working a two-minute drill to wrap up 11-on-11 work, Beck instantly uncorked a deep shot to wide receiver Bryson Green, who continues to make tough catches this camp.

But that was far from the high point of the series.

That came from his no-look touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Reggie Virgil, another standout.

The poise once again shined through similar to what we saw Thursday night. Same with the confidence with the ball in his hand.

“I love what I saw from Carson. I love being able to watch him have fun and be able to make these plays,” offensive lineman Paris Johnson Jr. said. “He just makes it look smooth and easy. I’m not in his head … but he just looks relaxed and it’s fun to watch him do his thing.

“He makes his plays, doesn’t get too hyped. Does a little Aaron Rodgers pump and turnaround to see if the guys saw he did it. I noticed. I like seeing him make plays.”

There is going to be plenty to clean up from an offensive standpoint for Beck — he did throw a pick although was hit as he let it rip — and the rest of the unit, but that ending was a great way to finish.

The Carson Beck-Jalen Brooks connection continues to grow

Picking up where they left off after linking up for 99 yards on three catches on Thursday night, the duo of Carson Beck and Jalen Brooks continued to show their connection during the Red & White Practice.

During two-minute and red-zone work, the duo connected for a pair of touchdowns with general manager Monti Ossenfort getting an up-close look at the scores.

The wide receivers room continues to show a lot of depth on the back end of the roster.

Tough day for Jacoby Brissett

I don’t know if Beck pulled a training camp Monstars switch with Brissett, but the vet looked more like the rookie during his early days of camp on Sunday.

You know, the inaccurate days.

In what felt like every deep ball — mostly to Marvin Harrison Jr. — Brissett was far from sharp, as passes weren’t particularly close.

His connection with tight end Trey McBride looked about as it has, but everything else just seemed off.

And after seeing how Beck ended things on Sunday, Brissett’s inconsistent afternoon just adds to the starter chatter that picked up after the rookie’s Hall of Fame Game outing.

Jeremiyah Love with the spin cycle

Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love gave the fans in attendance something to cheer for early on Sunday.

The offensive line was moving people early, creating some bigger holes than normal for the rookie.

He seized the opportunities with burst and shiftiness to get to the next level and then some on multiple occasions.

Then he put linebacker Zaven Collins on skates.

Looking dead to rights in the backfield, Love turned the spin cycle to high and had Collins somersaulting out of the club.

Love also found paydirt on a red-zone pass from Brissett and later saved the offense from a potential interception from the QB with a nice adjustment deep in the red zone before he was met by Budda Baker.

Darius Robinson popping (again)

Consistency was the biggest thing Robinson needed to show this camp. So far, he’s doing just that.

Again, he was seen wreaking havoc in the backfield with multiple “sacks” and what looked like constant pressure.

His burst to the inside to beat Isaac Seumalo was among his most impressive moves of the afternoon.

You good, Walt?

For the second time this camp, Walter Nolen III was seen leaving practice after trying to shake out something in his left arm.

Much like the last injury scare, maybe it’s just a nick. Still, something to monitor given his injury history in his short Cardinals tenure.

Elijah Jones getting some work with the 1s

Another deep room this camp has been the cornerbacks room.

And on Sunday, Elijah Jones was thrown in with the first-team unit.

The third-year cornerback had a couple pass breakups throughout practice.
