Packers GM: Josh Sweat trade talks never happened, Green Bay signs Kedon Slovis
Josh Sweat trade rumors involving the Cardinals and Packers have been floated for weeks. Green Bay GM Brian Gutekunst said they are untrue.

The Green Bay Packers were not involved in any Josh Sweat trade talks with the Arizona Cardinals in the past few weeks as the NFC North club awaits the return of injured pass rusher Micah Parsons, general manager Brian Gutekunst said Tuesday.
Gutekunst told Green Bay media members that he’d been made aware of rumors circulating about such talks a few weeks ago. That chatter only intensified last week due to reporting from some reporters covering joint practices between the Cardinals and Packers.
“I don’t pay any attention to that stuff,” Gutekunst said, smiling. “No one from our organization has had a conversation about Josh Sweat with anybody from Arizona. I don’t know — some things come out of thin air. Somebody’s making stuff up because that’s never happened.”
One reporter who had put out Sweat-to-Green Bay information even wrote “Welp time for a new source” after the Packers GM made his comments.
Green Bay is biding its time as Parsons begins the year sidelined as he recovers from an ACL injury. He is on injured reserve to start the season.
Packers sign former Cardinals quarterback Kedon Slovis
Gutekunst said the team signed former Arizona quarterback Kedon Slovis, who went 21-for-35 for 223 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions against Green Bay in the Cardinals’ preseason finale on Friday.
“Did a lot of really good things and excited to get him,” Gutekunst said.
The Cardinals retained Gardner Minshew II and rookie Carson Beck as their backup quarterbacks behind Jacoby Brissett. They released Slovis amid 53-man roster cuts over the weekend.
Slovis appeared briefly in two games last season for Arizona.

Those weren't all his fault. One was a protection breakdown where he didn't have a chance. The other was a misfire because of pressure. That second one was partly his fault, tho.
What killed his chances was drafting Carson Beck. They're not going to carry 4 QBs, even with one on the PS.

Slovis overall showed some talent this pre-season. Pressure is squarely on Brissett, he has an outstanding td to interception ratio throughout his career, for a backup, but he does not win a lot. If he starts off with lots of fancy passing and very little winning, I'd get Beck in there early and often. Find out what we've got.
