Corbin Carroll earns Diamondbacks’ Roberto Clemente award nomination

PHOENIX — Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll was named the club’s nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award, which honors players for what they accomplish off the field.

By definition from Major League Baseball, the Roberto Clemente Award “best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.”

Carroll is Arizona’s nominee for the second straight season, as the club highlighted his work with and for kids in the community.

For years, Carroll has gotten involved with initiatives to support Valley youth, from equipment donations, hospital visits and getting in front of teams to wish them luck.

Carroll’s CC7 Charitable Fund, in partnership with the Arizona Diamondbacks Foundation, provides resources to the D-backs Nike Jr. RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities) Program with the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Valley as well as equipment to “low-income leagues and communities.”

The Diamondbacks say Carroll has donated more $150,000 to such causes through the fund.

He regularly attends team charity events, including a holiday shopping spree for underserved children during the offseason and decorated cleats with young patients at Phoenix Children’s just a couple weeks ago.

“I’ve been a part of some of those things that he’s doing that others don’t get to see,” manager Torey Lovullo said. “He gives his time and his effort on and off the field to those he feels like he can impact. For him to be our nominee, it’s a semi-no-brainer. I feel like we have other guys that could be considered. But Corbin is just a very kind soul, cares about others as much as I’ve ever seen.”

All 30 teams nominate a player for the award, and the winner will be honored at the 2026 World Series.

The winner will be decided by a panel including representatives from the Commissioner’s Office, MLB.com, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Clemente’s children: Enrique, Luis and Roberto Clemente Jr.

Fans are part of the panel, as the public can vote online for a winner through Sept. 27.

Tuesday is Roberto Clemente Day in MLB, honoring the Hall of Fame Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder and renowned philanthropist for whom the award has been named after since 1973.

Several players will wear Clemente’s No. 21 on Tuesday, including members of the Pirates, Roberto Clemente Award nominees and past winners, along with athletes of Puerto Rican descent.
