Jesus Sanchez slated to make Diamondbacks debut tonight against former team

Jesus Sanchez is set to make his debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday, a day after being claimed off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.

Sanchez spent the first five-plus seasons of his career with the Miami Marlins, who the Diamondbacks are hosting Tuesday. Arizona won the opener of the three-game set, 8-7, on Monday.

This season, Sanchez is hitting .260 with eight home runs and 36 RBIs.

The best season of his career came in 2024 with the Marlins, where the outfielder hit .252 with 18 home runs and 64 RBIs.

Throughout his career, Sanchez has displayed some impressive raw power, notably mashing a 496-foot home run at Coors Field in 2022. However, he hasn’t had the best defensive numbers, and as a result, will likely be a DH for Arizona to improve the team against right-handed pitchers.

Outfielder Tommy Troy has been optioned to Triple-A Reno in a corresponding move.
