Usually, the quarterback is the driving force behind their team’s wins, but that has been far from the case with Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix.
Despite Denver being 4-2 on the season, Nix has struggled mightily by totaling only 1,049 yards and a whopping 38.5 QB rating, which ranks 30th in the league. He’s only eclipsed 200 yards in a game twice.
In wake of the quarterback’s struggles ahead of Denver’s matchup against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, head coach Sean Payton said he is sticking with his third-year QB.
When asked by reporters on Monday if he’s considering a change, Payton gave a brief response.
“No,” Payton said. “He’s going to become the byproduct of all of the finer things that get improved.”
Nix’s lackluster performance on Thursday Night Football was even called out in the postgame show by former NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick.
“It was really frustrating to watch,” Fitzpatrick said. “Part of it, for me, is Nix is not playing competitively. It’s almost disrespectful to the quarterback position how he’s playing football right now.”
In that game against the Seattle Seahawks, Nix passed for a season-low 107 yards and zero touchdowns. Despite this, the Broncos still got the win on the backs of their defense forcing Sam Darnold into two interceptions.
The Cardinals, 2-4, are coming off of an upset win against the Los Angeles Rams, where they had one of their best defensive performances of the season.
Nix will look to get his offense back on track in the desert this week, while the Cardinals will aim to build off their success in L.A.
