ARIZONA CARDINALS

What’s next for the Cardinals offense after Jalen Brooks’ injury?

Without Brooks, the Cardinals' receiving corps is down to five guys, and two preseason standouts will have their opportunity to step up.

Coming into the season, the Arizona Cardinals had too many receivers to roster all the talent. Now with Marvin Harrison Jr. traded and Jalen Brooks out for the rest of the season, who will need to step up for Arizona?

“Next man up, right? The show goes on. Reggie (Virgil) got a few reps there versus L.A. Didn’t get as many yesterday but a good week of practice by him, but you can do it by committee,” head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters on Monday. “Kendrick (Bourne) can play some X, too, if we need that. Obviously, Simi (Fehoko) has done kinda both. But, it’ll be by committee.”

Virgil has two receptions for 29 yards, which both came against the Detroit Lions. While the fifth-round pick out of Texas Tech didn’t record any targets or catches in the last two games, he has seen some snaps in each contest, per Pro Football Focus.

Bourne is the Cardinals’ third-leading pass catcher this year, with 234 receiving yards on 25 receptions, and Fehoko doesn’t have a catch this season. However, the Stanford product was a preseason star.

Virgil, Fehoko and Brooks were Arizona’s receiving trio in the preseason that made roster decisions difficult. Virgil reeled in 12 catches for 158 yards, and Fehoko collected 11 for 164 yards and four touchdowns.

Without Brooks, the Cardinals’ receiving corps is down to five guys, and those two preseason standouts will have their opportunity to step up. Bourne can be flexible, if needed.

Another option not to forget about is Devin Duvernay, who does not have a catch this season but also turned some heads in preseason. LaFleur didn’t mention the Texas product by name, but operating by committee suggests everyone available is on the table and that includes Duvernay.
