Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Jalen Brooks is undergoing season-ending wrist surgery, he posted on his Instagram story after Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos.
Brooks played 64% of Arizona’s offense snaps on Sunday and made one catch on six targets, as he has taken on an expanded role since the Marvin Harrison Jr. trade moved him up the depth chart.
His reception went for 35 yards, as he reached for the end zone but was stopped at the Broncos’ 1-yard line late in the fourth quarter. The Cardinals eventually got turned over on downs to ice the 30-16 defeat.
“Have to get an emergency surgery on my wrist,” Brooks wrote. “I don’t need phone calls … just prayers. I’ll be done for the season.”
Brooks is tied for fourth on the Cardinals this season with 17 targets. His most impactful play of the year was a 21-yard catch over the middle in Week 6 against the Los Angeles Rams that helped set up the game-winning field goal from Chad Ryland.
Without Brooks, the Cardinals have five active wide receivers and two more on the practice squad. Michael Wilson (37), Kendrick Bourne (25) and Reggie Virgil (2) are the only members of that group with a catch this season:
- Michael Wilson
- Kendrick Bourne
- Reggie Virgil
- Devin Duvernay
- Simi Fehoko
- Shedrick Jackson (PS)
- Harrison Wallace III (PS)
